Ganderbal, Jan 04 (KNO): The Nagabal area, which is considered a gateway to central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district, is without a garbage dumping site, leaving people with no option but to throw the waste in the open.
The locals said the area is facing a difficult situation in terms of unloading and disposal of garbage due to the unavailability of a suitable garbage dumping site.
Talking to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), the locals said the dumping of waste has been a major issue in the region for a long time, while the authorities have been unable to find a solution to this problem.
The people complained that in the absence of proper waste treatment, a foul stench has been emanating from the garbage heaps found every few metres across Nagabal.
“This endangers the health of people besides attracting stray dogs which also poses threat to our lives,” said a local.
They also alleged that stray dogs are brought from other districts and thrown here, posing a serious threat to pedestrians, particularly children.
The locals have urged the authorities to take steps for the efficient disposal of garbage and the installation of waste bins in the area—(KNO)
